Consul General Gunther Sales received the Philippines’ “Queen of Soul,” Jaya (Ramsey Gotidoc), to the Consulate for a warm courtesy call.
One of the country’s most celebrated artists — the soulful voice behind generations of OPM classics and a trailblazer who became one of the first Filipino singers to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 — Jaya continues to be an ambassador of Filipino artistry and talent. She is now proudly based here in Houston, part of our vibrant Filipino community in Texas.
During her visit, Jaya also registered as an Overseas Filipino Voter ahead of the 2028 Philippine National Elections. Her example is a reminder that wherever we are in the world, our voice — and our vote — matters. 🇵🇭
Magparehistro at iboto ang inyong adhikain para sa bayan! 🗳️

The Philippine Consulate General in Houston hosted the 2nd general assembly of the Philippine Kalayaan Houston (PKH) as the community makes its final preparations for the celebration of the 128th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.
During the assembly, Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment and support for the community’s efforts to unite and come together for this milestone event. She likewise acknowledged the invaluable partnership of community leaders and Filipino American organizations whose dedication and enthusiasm have been instrumental in bringing this celebration to life — a spirit that echoes the very ideals of Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, at Kinabukasan.
The Consulate strongly encouraged everyone’s active participation and support for the Kalayaan Festival, underscoring that the success of this celebration belongs to the community as a whole. Consul General Gunther Sales joined San Antonio Days, hosted by the Global Engagement Office of the City of San Antonio — a productive two days of economic and cultural exchange, and an opportunity to connect with Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and the leaders of Communities Aligning Baguio and San Antonio, Texas (CABSAT) and the San Antonio Filipino American Chamber of Commerce. Our community here helps exemplify the enduring bonds between the Philippines and the United States.

128 years ago, on 28 May 1898, the Philippine flag flew for the very first time — not in a ceremony, but in the fire of battle. The victory at Alapan was not just a military win. It was the moment our flag meant something — earned in battle, not bestowed.
From that battlefield in Cavite to the declaration of independence in Kawit on 12 June — 15 days that took a nation from its first victory to its first act of freedom.
During Flag Days, we do not just display our colors. We remember what they cost.
Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.🇵🇭

The Gawad Kalinga (GK) USA community came together for its 17th Annual GK Hope Ball, a Flores de Mayo fundraising celebration held at the Hyatt Regency Houston West. Hosted by GK Houston, the evening was a joyful celebration of GK’s enduring mission — honoring the communities uplifted, the students reached through SEED Philippines, and the partners and donors whose generosity has made it all possible.
Representing the Philippine Consulate General, Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano underscored Gawad Kalinga’s role in nation-building — that GK is more than a builder of homes, but a bearer of hope and a beacon of faith in what Filipinos can build for one another.
For over a decade, GK Houston has served as a steadfast bridge between the Filipino-American community in Texas and vulnerable communities in the Philippines — channeling the spirit of bayanihan into tangible change: safe homes, quality education through SEED Philippines, and restored dignity for the country’s most marginalized sectors.
